Mixed-signal design plays a key role in modern digital audio and video signal distribution systems. Wherever a signal transformation from digital to analog (or vice versa) takes place, fast clock and data signals run in close proximity to sensitive analog signals. Therefore, special care has to be taken in the component placement and layout process to guarantee low noise and low distortion signal transmission.
The fundamental design technique we employ in any mixed-signal design project is ground current optimized design, since for low noise applications ground planes can’t be considered to be impedance free conductors.
